3. Additional Settings

Let’s take a look at some popular features of The Promise. These steps are optional, but can improve your user experience.

3.1. Using Real Debrid with The Promise

The Promise works with free sources, so using a Debrid account is not required, but it is recommended.

File hosting sites often limit file availability and bandwidth for free users. Using premium accounts gives you unrestricted access to several file hosters and cached torrents, it can greatly improve the quality and quantity of available sources.

In this example, we’ll use Real Debrid. A popular service to get unrestricted access to various file hosters and cached torrents for a very low price.

Before starting, we recommend logging into your Real Debrid account using a web browser.

1. Select Tools from The Promise’s main menu. The Promise's main menu, the Tools option is selected

2. Press ResolveURL: Settings.Open ResolveURL settings using The Promise

3. Select the Universal Resolver 2 tab and Press (Re)Authorize My Account in the Real Debrid section.authorize The Promise with Real Debrid

4. Copy the authorization code.copy the authorization code for Real Debrid

5. Use a web browser to visit https://real-debrid.com/device/ and enter the authorization code. (You must be logged in with your Real Debrid account).enter real debrid authorization code

6. Enter ThePromise and press Set that name.register The Promise with Real Debrid

You can now use The Promise with premium sources.

Navigate the add-on menu to select a movie or episode. Once you’ve made your choice, The Promise will show a selectable list of available sources.

7. Select a source to start playing the video.source select screen on The Promise

Free sources are displayed in white, premium sources in orange, and official sources in green. There are 3 types of premium sources:

  • Cached Torrent: The file is already on the Real Debrid cloud, and it is ready to be downloaded.
  • File Locker Site:  The file will be downloaded directly from the specified File Hosting website.
  • Uncached Torrent: The magnet link or torrent file will be transferred to the Real Debrid cloud, where it will be downloaded and made available to you as soon as possible. Waiting time depends on the number of seeds/peers available.  You can see the download progress on the Real Debrid website under My Torrents

When using a Debrid service, your device won’t connect directly to the P2P network. Every download is encrypted by HTTPS protocol.

3.2. Using Trakt With The Promise

Trakt.tv is a free service that helps you organize and keep track of your favorite movies and shows. Using a Trakt account is very helpful when you want to sync your watched status across devices.

The Promise can integrate with your Trakt account, giving you access to your collection, lists, and bookmarks.

It is also capable of scrobbling, so using the official Trakt add-on is optional. Scrobbling means automatically checking in your watched episodes and movies on the cloud.

To use Trakt with The Promise, visit the Trakt.tv website, log in with your account and follow these steps.

1. Select Tools from The Promise’s main menu. The Promise's main menu, the Tools option is selected

2. Press TRAKT: Authorise.select Authorize Trakt from the Tools menu

3. Copy the authorization code.copy the authorization code for Trakt

Back in Kodi, you should see your Trakt username on The Promises’s settings menu.

If you’re not using the official Trakt add-on, you should activate Enable scrobble and change Set Resume Point to Trakt Scrobbles to synchronize your watched status with Trakt.

6. Adjust the Trakt settings according to your needs and press OK when you’re ready. Trakt options on The Promises's settings menu

To access your Trakt collection, lists, and other Trakt features, use My Movies and My TV Shows categories on the add-on’s main menu.

The Promise is repeatedly showing no stream available, as others have mentioned

Hi! I’m still getting some results with The Promise, but the amount of streams available is significantly lower than before. Please try Scrubs if you’re looking for free sources.

Same here. Sumthin weird’s going on in the background methinks. I don’t dare update beyond Kodi 18.9. I’ve found that I can still find MOST of my regular shows using the Elementum + (Elementum Burst) from the Warehouse repo. Some MAY be delayed by a day or two. That’s my workaround for the time being. I’m sure hoping this glitch is temporary…

    How do you download films?

I’m trying to download a TV episode using Kodi 20 and ThePromise. I have no problem watching the video, I just can’t get the download function to work.
This used to work for me using older versions of Kodi with add-ons like Exodus.
Is there a configuration thing that I’m missing?

Hi, you don’t need a Debrid account to use The Promise, it can scrape free sources that are openly available on the internet. Keep in mind that free sources are usually lower quality and can be prone to buffering, so you’ll probably have to try a couple of sources before finding one that works.

    Good day,
I seem to have a problem with Kodi / The Promise/Trakt adding to My Tv Shows and Movies those TVshows and movies I have searched and added to my Library. Previously when I used the Oath all the shows I wanted were loaded and have remained on. When starting with the Promise none of my searched TV shows or movies show in my collection after adding to my library. Some times it says Added to favourites ( where do I find the Favourites on Kodi/the Promise?) It also says added to library but does not show in Collection. What do I do to show in My Collection …. continue watching is also empty , Trakt watchlist is also empty. I have to go to search and watch from Search all the time. When Oath was no longer working I started from sctach except for Trakt just reactivated with new code in the Promise .My Collection it keeps track of what I watch but insearch it does not …….Please help
What do I do to correct this problem Your help will be much appreciated.

Hi, I just installed The Promise and everything is working fine. It seems like you’re using an older version of Kodi. Please stick to the release version (currently 19.4) to avoid headaches.

Recently I have a problem with proper integration with trakt.tv. Watched episodes are updated in the database, but my tv shows / continue watching, collection, trakt watchlist, etc. functions don’t work. They just won’t load. I have to use search function every time.

I could do with some help with being able to move from using The Oath to The Promise. I’ve gone through this guide and I can’t seem to get The Promise to be the Add-On that searches for files. Even if I disable The Oath that isn’t making The Promise kick in; I’m just getting no search rsults at all.

The weird thing is that even though I’ve read that The Oath has been taken down I can still search and play films through it, just not episodic TV.

I’m running Kodi 19.3 via a Minix box that I have hooked up to my Android TV. However, I’m by no means an expert and could really use some help.

Oh, and if someone could get in touch with me directly via the e-mail address that I listed when posting this comment (I assume only the author or site admins will be able to see that) I’d appreciate it. Otherwise I’m likely to miss any replies to my question.

      Thank you.

Hi! There are some compatibility issues between The Oath and The Promise, you should try to remove all of The Oath’s dependencies but that can be a bit messy and it’s not guaranteed to work. It’s probably best to start with a clean install. You might also be interested in upgrading to 19.4, download the latest Kodi for Android here https://kodi.tv/download/android

Hi, I have the same issue as Chris, just SMR Link Tester in addons. Do you mean that if I did not update Kodi to the latest version, I won’t be able to download the addon?
