The Complete Guide to Torrentio and Stremio [April 2024]

Take your streaming experience to the next level with Torrentio, one of the most popular addons for Stremio. Torrentio aggregates links to movies, series and anime from various torrent indexing websites.

The links provided by Torrentio can be streamed by either connecting directly to the torrent network, or by using a Debrid service for faster and more secure connections.

Torrentio offers customizable filters and sorting options to refine your search results. Plus, it supports specific providers for languages like English, French, Spanish (both European and Latin American), Portuguese, and Russian.

In this guide, we are going to install and setup Torrentio on Stremio. Let’s get started!

It’s important to note that using torrents can have legal implications depending on your location and the content being downloaded. It’s recommended to check your local laws and regulations before using Torrentio.

How to install Torrentio

With the default configuration, Torrentio will serve torrents to Stremio.

You’ll be streaming files directly from other peers participating in the torrent network and your IP address will be publicly available. In some countries, a VPN is required to use torrents.

1. Open your web browser and go to the official Torrentio setup page on https://torrentio.strem.fun/configure

Let’s review the settings to use Stremio and Torrentio with torrents.

  • Providers: These are the torrent indexing websites providing the links. By default, Torrentio enables all providers, including those for Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Russian.
  • Sorting: Sorting criteria for search results. Torrent users should select By quality then seeders.
  • Priority foreign language: Prioritize streams with audio track in selected language. Keep in mind that not all streams have multi-language audio tracks.
Exclude qualities/resolutions: Torrentio lets you exclude selected qualities from the search results. Use this to filter low quality videos or unsupported formats on your device.
  • Max result per quality: Limit the number of results to display per quality. This is great if you use many addons.
  • Video Size Limit: Set the maximum file size for videos. Use this on slow connections.
  • Debrid Provider: Select None to use torrents directly.

2. Press the Install button. Most web browsers require you to confirm before opening the link with Stremio.

How to install Torrentio with Real Debrid

When you use Torrentio with a Debrid service, you’ll get links to cached torrents. These are faster and safer than normal torrents.

Using cached torrents keeps your device’s IP hidden from the torrent network. Communication with the Debrid servers happens securely via HTTPS, encrypted with the SSL/TSL protocol.

In this example, we are going to use Real Debrid, a popular service to access cached torrents and various file hosting sites for a very low price.

1. Open your web browser and go to the official Torrentio setup page on https://torrentio.strem.fun/configure

Addon's setup page

Let’s review the settings to use Stremio and Torrentio with Real Debrid. We’ll list only the settings that are different from the default configuration.

  • Sorting: Sorting criteria for search results. Debrid users should select By quality then size.
  • Debrid Provider: Select Real Debrid.
  • RealDebrid API Key: Go to https://real-debrid.com/apitoken and copy the API token. (You need to log in with your Real Debrid account)
  • Debrid options: Most users enable the first 2 options and leave the third one disabled. Here’s a short explanation of each option.
    • Don’t show download to debrid links: Hides links marked as [RD Download] that haven’t been cached yet.
    • Don’t show debrid catalog: Torrentio adds a catalog to the Home screen with the latest streamed files. Enabling this option will hide the catalog.
    • Show P2P torrent links for uncached: With this option, you’ll get links to normal torrents for files that are not yet cached on the Debrid server. Do not enable this option if you want to avoid normal torrents.

2. Press the Install button. Most web browsers require you to confirm before opening the installation link in Stremio.

3. Now go to Stremio and press Install.

All done! Now you are ready to stream content on Stremio with Torrentio and Real Debrid.

Torrentio labels Real Debrid links as [RD+] or [RD Download] to indicate if they’re ready to stream.

[RD+] means the torrent is already cached in the servers and ready to playback.

On the other hand, [RD Download] means that the torrent will be downloaded to the Debrid servers first. This is usually quite fast, depending on the number of available seeds and peers. You’ll find the links to the newly cached torrents in the Debrid catalog that Torrentio adds to your Home screen.

What is Torrentio Lite?

Torrentio Lite is the same Torrentio addon but it’s already pre configured with the most common settings. Some of the difference are:

  • Providers for foreign languages are disabled by default.
  • Low quality videos like Screener and Cam are excluded by default.
  • Max results per quality is set to 1.

You can change all the settings to your own preferences. We recommend setting a bigger Max results per quality.

Torrentio Lite uses the same backend as Torrentio, you can install it from https://torrentio.strem.fun/lite/configure.

Can I use Torrentio with Stremio Web?

Torrentio works great on the Desktop and Android versions since both these apps come equipped with an internal streaming server that can handle torrent streaming and video transcoding.

Conversely, Stremio Web can only handle HTTP(S) streams and can only play video formats supported by the browser. To circumvent these limitations, you must connect Stremio Web to a streaming server running in Stremio Deskop.

So, in order to stream torrents with Torrentio on Stremio Web, you must first connect it to a streaming server. Please read using Stremio Web on unsupported devices for more information.

Debrid services transmit cached torrents securely via HTTPS, allowing you to play them directly on Stremio Web. However, some video formats might not be compatible with your web browser. You must use an external player like VLC or Outplayer to play those videos.

If you want to play all cached torrents directly on the web browser, you will have to connect to a streaming server that will automatically transcode the videos to a web standard format. Please read using Stremio Web on unsupported devices for more information.
