TMDb Helper is an add-on that provides Kodi with information about movies and TV shows from the TheMovieDb website, organized in many useful lists, with search capability and the ability to create custom lists using filters.
This add-on is a combination of OpenMeta and OpenInfo and it serves many purposes. It offers widgets that can be used with customizable skins to personalize your home screen. TheMovieDb Helper can also interact with other installed add-ons, letting you choose which add-on to use when playing content.
You can think of TheMovieDb Helper as a centralized menu for all your installed add-ons. Instead of browsing many menus on different add-ons, you can use TheMovieDb Helper to find the content first and choose the add-on later. And, if you use customizable skins, you can create your own widgets.
TheMovieDb Hepler can use your Trakt.tv account to access your collection, lists, suggestions, and other Trakt features. It can also integrate with the library.
In this guide, we’re going to install TheMovieDb Helper on Kodi using its official source. This add-on is also available on Kodi’s official repository, but we recommend using the official source to get the latest version. Let’s begin!
1. Installing TMDb Helper on Kodi
If this is the first time you install add-ons on Kodi, you’ll have to allow the installation of unofficial add-ons. Please read How to allow 3rd-party add-ons on Kodi and come back here when you’re ready.
1.1. Install Jurialmunkey’s Repository
Let’s add a link to TheMovieDb Helper’s official source on Jurialmunkey’s GitHub page, this will allow us to download the repository zip file directly on Kodi.
1. Press the cog icon near the top left corner of the screen to open the Settings menu.
2. Select File Manager.
3. Press Add Source.
4. Enter https://jurialmunkey.github.io/repository.jurialmunkey/ on the top box and repository.jurialmunkey on the bottom one. Press OK to add the source.
Let’s use the newly added link to download the repository.
5. Go back to the Settings menu and this time select Add-ons.
6. Press Install from zip file.
You’ll see a message about the auto-update feature. Press Yes to proceed.
7. Select repository.jurialmunkey.
8. Click on repository.jurialmunkey-x.x.zip to install the repository.
1.2. Install TheMovieDb Helper add-on
Now that the repository is installed, let’s use it to download and install the add-on.
9. Now press Install from repository.
10. Select jurialmunkey Alpha Repository.
11. Select Video add-ons.
12. Click on TheMovieDb Helper.
13. Press the Install button and wait for the process to finish.
14. Go back to the Home Screen, you should now see a shortcut to TheMovieDb Helper on the Add-ons tab.
Now that TheMovieDb Helper is installed on Kodi, we are going to install the players’ package that will allow it to interact with other add-ons. If you’ve already installed your favorite add-ons, you’re almost done! If you haven’t installed them yet, don’t worry, you can install them later.
2. Adding Players to TheMovieDb Helper
TheMovieDb Helper uses small scripts called players to interact with other add-ons. Installing the players’ package will allow you to choose which add-on to use when selecting a movie or TV show on TMDb Helper.
1. Open the add-on and select Settings.
2. Select the Players tab from the list on the left and press Update Players from URL.
3. Enter http://bit.ly/tmdbplayers and press OK.
4. Press Yes to download and install the Players.
You’ll be prompted to clear the existing players, press Yes to confirm. If everything went correctly, you should see a success message.
If you haven’t installed your favorite add-ons yet, this is a good time to do it. Remember to open each installed add-on at least once to allow them to finish their setup process, otherwise, TMDb Helper might fail to interact with the newly installed add-ons.

In Part 2- Step #1: I do not have the “settings” cog appearing under MDblist. Any idea why?
Thanks
Hi, are you using a custom skin? Sometimes skins have problems when scrolling through menus.
An alternative way to access the TMDBHelper’s settings is going to Kodi’s main menu, select the Add-ons tab, highlight TheMovieDb Helper (do not click it) and open the context menu by long-pressing on the remote control or pressing C on the keyboard, then select Settings.
For some reason when I type in that link into the update players from URL section, click yes to download and yes to clear existing players…. it says successful, 74 add ons added. BUT when I go to configure my players, none of them are added it’s still the same defaulted players that don’t work. I’ve done this step several times in case I’ve missed some thing I even changed the link from HTTP to HTTPS hoping that that would’ve made the difference and still nothing. Any ideas why I can’t add players to tmdb helper? Of course, when I try to play a movie/TV show The list of players option shows up for me to choose from but it’s still the same defaulted players even after I’ve done this step. It’s very frustrating, not knowing what the issue is.
Was hoping you got some feedback. I keep getting told the url is invalid… checked spelling 100 times
Hi! I just checked both repository and players URLs and they seem to be working correctly. Make sure there are no extra spaces at the beginning or the end of the URL.
Thanks so much
When looking at the tv or movie menu it defaults to list. I can move left and choose media info. How do I make media info the default?
