How to install TheMovieDb Helper on Kodi [2024]

TheMovieDb Helper is a Kodi addon that provides information about movies and TV shows from the TheMovieDb website. The addon organizes this information in many useful categories, with search capability and the ability to create custom lists using filters.

This add-on is a combination of OpenMeta and OpenInfo, and it serves many purposes. It offers widgets that can be used with customizable skins to personalize your home screen. TheMovieDb Helper can also interact with other installed add-ons, letting you choose which add-on to use when playing content.

You can think of TheMovieDb Helper as a centralized menu for all your installed add-ons. Instead of browsing many menus on different add-ons, you can use TMDb Helper to find the content first and select the add-on later. And, if you use customizable skins, you can even create your own widgets.

It is possible to link your account with TheMovieDB Helper to access your collections, lists, suggestions, and other Trakt features. This addon can also integrate with Kodi’s library.

In this guide, we’re going to install TheMovieDb Helper on Kodi from its official source. This add-on is also available on Kodi’s official repository, but we recommend installing the official source to get the latest version. Let’s begin!

My problem with tmdb is that I can’t search a movie by year.

In part 1 when I try to Install TheMovieDb Helper it doesn’t and the message is: “the dependency on script.module.jurialmunkey version 0.1.7 could not be satisfied so what should I do?

      Same like me

Hi, in addition to enabling unknown sources, you must also modify the addon update settings on Kodi. Open the Settings menu (cog icon) > System > select the Add-ons tab > change Update official add-ons from to Any repositories. This will solve the dependency could not be satisfied error. I have already updated the guide to reflect the changes. Thanks for letting me know!

In Part 2- Step #1: I do not have the “settings” cog appearing under MDblist. Any idea why?

Hi, are you using a custom skin? Sometimes skins have problems when scrolling through menus.
An alternative way to access the TMDBHelper’s settings is going to Kodi’s main menu, select the Add-ons tab, highlight TheMovieDb Helper (do not click it) and open the context menu by long-pressing on the remote control or pressing C on the keyboard, then select Settings.

Thanks, I am using a custom skin (Aeon Nox I believe it is called). I will give your suggestion a try when I am home again.

For some reason when I type in that link into the update players from URL section, click yes to download and yes to clear existing players…. it says successful, 74 add ons added. BUT when I go to configure my players, none of them are added it’s still the same defaulted players that don’t work. I’ve done this step several times in case I’ve missed some thing I even changed the link from HTTP to HTTPS hoping that that would’ve made the difference and still nothing. Any ideas why I can’t add players to tmdb helper? Of course, when I try to play a movie/TV show The list of players option shows up for me to choose from but it’s still the same defaulted players even after I’ve done this step. It’s very frustrating, not knowing what the issue is.

Was hoping you got some feedback. I keep getting told the url is invalid… checked spelling 100 times

Hi! I just checked both repository and players URLs and they seem to be working correctly. Make sure there are no extra spaces at the beginning or the end of the URL.

When looking at the tv or movie menu it defaults to list. I can move left and choose media info. How do I make media info the default?
