Horus is a Kodi add-on that allow us to watch live streams using AceStream, a peer-to-peer protocol similar to BitTorrent but optimized for audio and video streaming.
Based on Plexus, Horus is compatible with Kodi 19 and can run on Android, Windows, Linux, and Raspberry Pi.
To play content with Horus, you must also install the AceStream client. We will also see how to install the AceStream app on different operating systems.
AceStream is very popular among sports fans living abroad, since it gives them access to live matches and TV channels that are not available with their local cable providers. By using P2P protocols like AceStream, you will exchange small parts of the stream with other users. Depending on your location, you may need a VPN to protect your privacy.
NOTICE: The current version of Horus for Windows has problems interacting with the Ace Stream player and does not work. However, Android and Linux are still working fine.
In this guide, we’re going to install Horus on Kodi. Let’s get started!
1. How to Install Horus on Kodi
There are a couple of different ways to install Horus on Kodi. The direct repository method is no longer available, so we must use Luar or Kelebek instead.
Luar and Kelebek are add-on installers specialized in Spanish language add-ons, they both host the official version of Horus. In this guide, we’re going to use Luar to install Horus.
If this is your first time installing add-ons on Kodi, you’ll have to allow the installation of unofficial add-ons. Please read How to allow 3rd-party add-ons on Kodi and come back here when you’re ready.
1.1. Install Luar
Let’s start by adding a link to Luar’s source on GitHub, we’ll use the link to download and install Luar directly on Kodi.
1. Press the cog icon near the top left corner of the screen.
2. Select File Manager.
3. Press Add Source.
4. Enter https://luarsource.github.io/Fuente/ in the top box and luarsource on the bottom one. Press OK to add the source.
5. Go back to the Settings menu and this time select Add-ons.
6. Click on Install from zip file.
On Kodi 19, you’ll see a message about the auto-update feature, press Yes to continue.
7. Select luarsource.
8. Now click on script.luar-x.x.x.zip.
The script will install Luar’s repository and add-on, the installation process might take a couple of minutes. You’ll be asked to switch Kodi’s interface language to Spanish, press No to keep your original language and wait until the installation process is done.
9. Go back to the Home Screen, you’ll see a shortcut to Luar under the Add-ons section.
2.2. Install Horus add-on
Now let’s use Luar to install Horus on Kodi.
10. Open Luar and select Por categorias (By Category).
11. Press Deportivos (Sports).
12. Select Horus.
13. Press Instalar.
14. Select a repository, we’ll use repository.GTKing-Matrix.
Wait a couple of seconds while the add-on is downloaded. You’ll see a notification when the installation process finishes.
15. Go back to the Home Screen. You’ll see a shortcut to Horus on the Add-ons tab.
We’ve installed Horus on Kodi, but we still need to install the AceStream client, or we won’t be able to play content.
2.3. Setup AceStream client
To open AceStream links, Horus requires an AceStream client that will run in the background while we stream content.
Let’s see how to set up the client on different systems.
2.3.1. Android
You must manually install the AceStream App on your device. Android TV users can download it from the Google Play Store. Android mobile users must download the APK for AceStream Media or AceStream Engine from AceStream’s official download page.
AceStream Media is a full-featured player app, while AceStream Engine is a smaller version with fewer features but lighter on resources. Both are compatible with Horus.
It is important that you open the AceStream app and accept the terms and conditions before playing any stream.
You must also configure Horus to use the AceStream player instead of Kodi’s internal player, otherwise, the stream will stop every 5 minutes. Go to Horus > Settings > and enable External player. When playing a stream, Android will show you a list of available players, make sure you choose Ace Player.
2.3.2. Windows and Raspberry Pi
NOTICE: The current version of Horus for Windows has problems interacting with the Ace Stream player and does not work. However, Android and Linux are still working fine.
The AceStream client will be automatically downloaded and installed when you open the add-on for the first time.
Horus will start the AceStream client when required, but you must manually close it when you’re done watching content. To automatically shut down the client, go to Horus > Settings > and enable Stop the AceStream Engine automatically.
2.3.3. Linux
You must manually install AceStream Player, the easiest way on Debian based distros is using the Snap Package Manager. Open the terminal and type the following commands:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install snapd
sudo snap install acestreamplayer
Once AceStream player is installed, Horus will automatically start it when required, but you must manually close it when you’re done watching content. To automatically shut down the player, go to Horus > Settings > and enable Stop the AceStream Engine automatically.
2. Playing AceStream links with Horus
Now that we installed the add-on and the client, it’s time to play some AceStream links!
1. Use the add-on’s main menu to Play AceStream ID or Find links.
Play AceStream ID / Torrent URI: Use an AceStream link or Torrent magnet link to start playing.
Find Links: You can enter the URL of a web page containing AceStream links and Horus will extract the links for you.
There are many websites that specialize on AceStream links and you can usually find a working link in a couple of minutes. But to make things even easier we’re going to install Winner 2, an add-on helps us find live sports links directly on Kodi.
3. How to Install Winner 2 on Kodi
Winner 2 is an add-on for Kodi that scrapes AceStream links from live sports websites and lets us play them with Horus. It is neatly organized in different sports categories, and has a convenient schedule for ongoing and upcoming live events.
Let’s install Winner 2 using Luar.
1. Go to the Home Screen and open Luar.
2. Select Por categorias (By category).
3. Select Deportivos (Sports).
4. Click on WINNER 2.
5. Press Instalar.
Wait a couple of seconds while Winner 2 and its dependencies are downloaded and installed. You will see a notification when the installation process is complete.
You’ll be prompted to run the YouTube add-on’s wizard. Press Yes to set up your YouTube language and region preferences.
6. Go back to the Home Screen, select the Add-ons tab and press on Winner 2.
7. Press on Ver Agenda (Schedule) to see all the available ongoing and upcoming matches.
