Horus is a Kodi add-on that allow us to watch live streams using AceStream, a peer-to-peer protocol similar to BitTorrent but optimized for audio and video streaming.
Based on Plexus, Horus is compatible with Kodi 19 and can run on Android, Windows, Linux, and Raspberry Pi.
To play content with Horus, you must also install the AceStream client. It is an external application that handles data transmission. We will see how to install the application on different operating systems.
AceStream is very popular among sports fans living abroad, since it gives them access to live matches and TV channels that are not available with their local cable providers. By using P2P protocols like AceStream, you will exchange small parts of the stream with other users. Depending on your location, you may need a VPN to protect your privacy.
In this guide, we’re going to install Horus on Kodi, set up the AceStream client, and we’ll also install Winner, an add-on that helps us use AceStream links. Let’s get started!
1. How to Install Horus on Kodi
There are a couple of different ways to install Horus on Kodi. We’re going to install it via repository, but you can also use an installer add-on like Luar or Kelebek.
If this is your first time installing add-ons on Kodi, you’ll have to allow the installation of unofficial add-ons. Please read How to allow 3rd-party add-ons on Kodi and come back here when you’re ready.
1.1. Install the Camaradas repository
Let’s add a link to fuentekodileia on GitHub, this will allow us to download the repository file directly on Kodi.
1. Press the cog icon near the top left corner of the screen.
2. Select File Manager.
3. Press Add Source.
4. Enter https://fuentekodileia.github.io/repositorios/ in the top box and fuentekodi on the bottom one. Press OK to add the source.
Now that we added the link, let’s use it to install the repository.
5. Go back to the Settings menu and this time select Add-ons.
6. Click on Install from zip file.
7. Select fuentekodi.
8. Now click on repository.camaradas.repo-x.x.x.zip.
Wait a couple of seconds while the repository is downloaded and installed. You’ll see a notification when the process is done.
2.2. Install Horus add-on
Let’s use the repository to install the add-on and its dependencies.
9. Select Install from Repository.
10. Press camaradas repo.
11. Select Program add-ons.
12. Select Horus.
13. Press the Install button.
Wait a couple of seconds while the add-on is downloaded. You’ll see a notification when the installation process finishes.
14. Go back to the Home Screen. You’ll see a shortcut to Horus on the Add-ons tab.
Horus is now installed on Kodi, but we still need to install the AceStream client or we won’t be able to play content.
2.3. Setup AceStream client
To open AceStream links, Horus requires an AceStream client that will run in the background while we stream content.
Let’s see how to set up the client on different systems.
2.3.1. Android
You must manually install AceStream Engine (Android TV version) or AceStream Media (Android TV version) on your device. You can also download the APK from the AceStream wiki.
AceStream Media is a full-featured player app, while AceStream Engine is a smaller version with fewer features but lighter on resources. Choose the one that’s best for you, both are compatible with Horus.
Horus will automatically start/stop the AceStream client when playing content.
2.3.2. Windows and Raspberry Pi
The AceStream client will be automatically downloaded and installed when you open the add-on for the first time.
Horus will start the AceStream client when needed but you must manually close it when you’re done watching content. To automatically shut down the client, go to Horus > Settings > and enable Stop the AceStream Engine automatically.
2.3.3. Linux
You must manually install AceStream Player using the Snap Package Manager. Open the terminal and type the following command.
sudo snap install acestreamplayer
Horus will automatically start the AceStream client when needed but you must manually close it when you’re done watching content. To automatically shut down the client, go to Horus > Settings > and enable Stop the AceStream Engine automatically.
2. Playing AceStream links with Horus
Now that we installed the add-on and the client, it’s time to play some AceStream links!
1. Use the add-on’s main menu to Play AceStream ID or Find links.
Play AceStream ID / Torrent URI: Use an AceStream link or Torrent magnet link to start playing.
Find Links: You can enter the URL of a webpage containing AceStream links and Horus will extract the links for you.
There are many websites that specialize on AceStream links and you can usually find a working link in a couple of minutes. But to make things even easier we’re going to install Winner, an add-on helps us find live sports links directly on Kodi.
3. How to Install Winner on Kodi
Winner is an add-on for Kodi that scrapes AceStream links from live sports websites and lets us play them with Horus. It is neatly organized in different categories for many sports, with ongoing and upcoming matches and live events.
We already installed the camaradas repo, let’s use it to install Winner.
1. Press the cog icon near the top left corner of the Home Screen.
2. Select Add-ons.
3. Select Install from Repository.
4. Click on camaradas repo.
5. Select Video add-ons.
6. Select Winner.
7. Press the Install button.
8. Click OK to install the add-on and its dependencies.
Wait a couple of seconds while the Winner and its dependencies are installed. You’ll be prompted to run the YouTube setup wizard, press No if you want to use the default settings.
9. Go back to the Home Screen. There’s a shortcut to Winner on the Add-ons tab.
10. Use the add-on’s main menu to search for matches and live events.
