If this is your first time installing unofficial add-ons on Kodi, you’ll have to modify the settings to allow the installation of 3rd party add-ons. You only have to do this once, and it is usually done with new Kodi installations.

Enabling Unknown sources will allow the installation of 3rd party add-ons that are not available in the official Kodi repository.

In this guide, we are going to allow unofficial add-ons on Kodi. Let’s begin!

Enabling Unknown sources on Kodi

1. Press the cog icon near the top left corner of the screen to open the Settings menu.
Open System menu on Kodi using the cog icon

2. Select System.
Kodi System Options on System Menu

3. Select the Add-ons tab, enable Unknown sources and Show notifications. Press Yes when you see the warning message.

Additionally, we recommend enabling Show notifications, since most addons use them to display important information.

Are 3rd party add-ons safe?

Kodi add-ons are actually Python scripts that can run code on your system with very few restrictions. If you install an add-on with malicious code on it, it can do a lot of damage to your system.

Add-ons on the official Kodi repository are safe and can be installed without the need for extra permissions.

Unofficial 3rd-party add-ons usually come with their own repositories. Installing add-ons from unknown sources can be risky, you should always use sources that you trust. For this reason, we are constantly trying to find and recommend well-known add-ons from trusted developers, used by many users (including us), and always using their respective original sources.

Popular unofficial add-ons are mostly safe, just be aware that there have been cases of add-ons running DDoS bots and cryptocurrency miners in the past. You should always protect your system with an antivirus and run scans periodically.

Unofficial streaming add-ons don’t host any files, they scrape websites and index video files that are available on the internet. Keep in mind that some content found by these add-ons might be protected by copyright laws.

Hello I was wondering if you could help me out with my Kodi app, I am trying to install the crew in my add-ons and I typed https//teamcrew.github.io in the Add file source window and I named it the crew, than I clicked ok. After that a box pops up and on the top it’s saying unable to connect. Then it says cannot retrieve directory information. This could be do to the network not being connected. Then it asks would you like to add it anyway?

That is where I’m stuck at can you please give me some advice on what to do when this happens? Thank you in advance!!

Hi! I think there’s a typo in your URL, try this one instead, https://team-crew.github.io . Also, make sure there are no spaces at the beginning and the end of the URL.
